Preparing for the Advent Season at OMPH School

As we enter the Advent season, our students are reminded of how important this four week journey is in preparing our hearts for the birth of the Savior. Throughout the Advent season, each class will participate in Advent traditions that will bring them closer to Jesus as we follow His family to the manger.

Mrs. Pagan’s Preschool 3 class will be using bingo dabbers to make Advent wreaths with flames for each week, and will be talking about what each candle represents. Her class will be focusing on the themes of hope, peace, joy, and love. Mrs. Edmiston’s Preschool 4 class will create a special advent wreath where the flame “tucks” in and can be “popped” up each week to “light” it. They have a box of "gifts" (items that can be used to create a manger) that go along with a scripture reading and they will open one each day. Other activities include watching the Brother Francis daily Advent video, talking about Jesus' birthday and how they can prepare their hearts and homes for Him. Mrs. Gerhard’s

Kindergarten Blue class sings a special Advent song each morning! Other activities include a classroom Advent wreath and reading Advent stories from around the world. Miss Peters’ Kindergarten Gold class will be watching interactive Advent videos where they become navigators throughout the journey leading up to the birth of Jesus. They will also be discussing how peace, love, hope, and joy are celebrated in their lives.

Mrs. Hoffmann’s First Grade enjoys the Star from Afar, where the students find the Star every morning and then move the Star next to the Wise Men. They also focus on “Jesus is the Reason for the Season” and talk about the many gifts Jesus has given to them. Second Grade, led by Mrs. Eberly, will be making an Advent countdown paper chain! They will also incorporate their studies on family trees and ancestors by learning about Jesus’ ancestors. Mrs. Touloumis’ Third Grade class will be making individual advent wreaths, and both her and Mrs. Dodson’s Fourth Grade class will be putting together classroom Jesse Trees. Fourth Grade will also be completing acts of kindness from the MCA Adventure to Epiphany Calendar.

Mrs. Schulze’s Fifth Grade class will be making an Advent wreath with special Advent prayers, as well as creating a Nativity for in the narthex with the some of the other classes. They will have a task to do each day to bring kindness to those around them as they await the coming of Christ. The Sixth Grade class, under Mrs. DiNovis’ direction, will be creating an Advent calendar. Mrs. Neafach’s Seventh Grade class is working on making Advent Calendars for the OMPH priests. Students are creating a large calendar with homemade decorations and each day includes one of their favorite scripture readings.

The OMPH Eighth Grade class, along with teacher Mr. Landry, will be making an advent candle art project using transparent acrylic paints and aluminum foil. When finished, the projects will look like stained glass! Thank you to our dedicated teachers for making Advent a meaningful season for our students!
